Onychmycosis is the infection of fingernails or toenails by fungi. The causal agents are dermatopbytes, yeats and nondermatopbyte fungi. It constitutes a frequent motive of consultation in tehe ambulatory practice and involves physical functional, and emotional aspects of the patients. Though the new antimycotic agents are mor promising than the previus schemes, the relapses continue geing high the education of the patients is key for the success of the therapy. In this article we review etiologic and epidomiological characteristics, discussing aspects of the diagnosis and innovations in the treatmentof this pathology
